In addition, TaiwanIHA has invited Dr. Manuel Carballo, Executive Director of the International Center for Migration and Health; Dr. Dan Kaseje, an expert in tropical medicine; as well as representatives of the Education and Development Center, and domestic healthcare institutes and humanitarian aid organizations. Topics for discussion include challenges to emergency humanitarian rescues, opportunities and responsibilities, capacity building, and experience sharing on the flooding and Rift Valley fever in Kenya.
TaiwanIHA has cooperated with various healthcare non-government organizations on international humanitarian aid. It has just recently published Passion and Care: The Story of Taiwan’s Global Health Humanitarian Aid, an album of 114 pictures provided by 17 of Taiwan’s humanitarian aid organizations and missions abroad. The book has been translated into four languages for publication: Chinese, English, French and Spanish. The book documents the participation of Taiwan’s governmental and civic organizations in international disaster relief, global epidemic prevention, medical equipment donation, international paramedic training, and free clinical services provision. The achievements manifest Taiwan’s warmth, care and concern for the international community. The book illustrates Taiwan’s enthusiasm and vitality in giving back to the international community. It also helps construct the image of Taiwan as an important partner in international healthcare cooperation.
TaiwanIHA is holding the Health Action in Crisis symposium in response to the increasingly harsh challenges we face from globalization, ever-worsening natural and man-made disasters, and limited relief resources. Invited to this event are experts and scholars from home and abroad. By gathering together, we can benefit from our collective knowledge. We can explore ways to bridge the gaps in humanitarian assistance, while strengthening our experience-sharing and cooperation on international medical aid. For these reasons, this event holds particular meaning.
TaiwanIHA will continue its close cooperation with healthcare institutes and humanitarian organizations in Taiwan. The people of Taiwan are earnest and sensitive to the needs of others. We will bolster international healthcare cooperation and emergency humanitarian aid cooperation, thereby turning Taiwan into a bastion for humanitarian aid in Asia and the world.
